On December 15th, I caught up with Katie Craddock during one of her cookie decorating classes at A Thyme for Everything. Her bakery, Beautifully Delicious, offers custom decorated sugar cookies that are as delicious as they are beautiful. Their signature cookie is an almond vanilla bean cookie with a cream cheese cookie glaze. Katie's cookies have become a staple at most of Just Say I Do's pop-up weddings. I underestimated the statement a cookie can make and can't imagine styling a wedding without them, smile. They add an amazing beauty to the sweets tables and are delicious to eat!
The bakery started as a reason for Katie to play with recipes, edible art, and have fun creating for family and work events. She combined her love for baking with throwing elaborately themed birthday parties for her daughters. As her oldest daughter decided she didn’t like cake anymore, Katie began to search for other options and was drawn to the intricacy and endless possibilities of sugar cookies. In luck, her daughter loved them!
In the beginning, Katie handled every aspect of the bakery herself. Sharing and selling to friends and family encouraging her with love and support. January 2017, her sister decided Katie needed a logo and Beautifully Delicious was born. Starting in March of 2018, her husband Zach started baking everything. He has greatly improved the recipe and efficiency of the operation. “I could not have grown the Beautifully Delicious bakery without him,” says Katie. They really enjoy working together and each taking pride in their contributions to the process. “It’s incredible to be able to create our edible art from a little flour, sugar, and butter.”
Katie and Zach are both special educators and work full time in local school districts. When they’re not educating or crafting cookies, they enjoy family time with their two daughters. Charlie, 6, and Georgie, 3, are the newest Beautifully Delicious crew members. They are the packaging specialists. “We are a real family business and so grateful for the opportunity our family has been given. This small business is a big part of our life and a life we love and are proud of.”
Following in her Grandmother’s footsteps, Katie started out as an art major in college. She dreaded the idea of having to work for someone else so eventually graduated with a master’s degree in speech-language pathology and has worked in a variety of settings for the last 9 years. Although she loves her career, she is able to express herself creatively through her baking. She enjoys adding her own creativity and spark to custom orders and is honored to have the opportunity to completely design cookie sets for clients. “Cookies fuel my soul in a way that I didn’t know I needed.”
Beautifully Delicious offer pick-ups on Fridays, classes on Saturdays, and private parties upon request.
How did you get started or what inspired you to get into the wedding business?
Our cookies were often ordered for birthdays, graduations, showers, and then weddings! Weddings were a natural progression of events. Our cookies have been used to announce engagements, propose to bridesmaids, shower the bride, indicate place settings, and decorate the dessert table. We love being a part of such a beautiful celebration!
Any wedding trends or traditions you love or hate?
Trends and traditions are a fun way to express your personality. I look back at our wedding and smile at the silly photobooth and roller rink reception with my something old, something new, and something blue because it is still exactly who we are!
Advice for engaged couples:
Relax, enjoy, and know that your wedding day is a day you’ll never forget, but also just another day in the grand scheme of a life of love together.
